Team C and sketch of clothing with magnetic strips

Challenge Workshop, COT 2007

Team C
Magnetic Tom

Subject
Tom Yelland has no arms and told the team that he would like to be able to do up the top buttons on a formal shirt and wear a formal suit and tie. Because he loses 30 per cent of his body temperature through other parts of his anatomy, Tom gets very hot.

Brief
To enable Tom to put on and take off formal wear without the need for assistance and to be able to wear a tucked-in shirt and a tie instead of the loose one that he normally has to wear.

Concept
The team came up with the idea of attaching a shirt to a pair of trousers using magnets. The team also looked at the use of magnets to hold the jacket and bow tie on. The concept was called Magnetic Tom.
