The Helen Hamlyn Design Awards, the competition that recognises outstanding people-centred design ideas by graduating students of the Royal College of Art, announced its 2010 awards at a presentation event on 30 June 2010 to mark the start of the College's Innovation Night. Judging took place a few days earlier on 25 June.
Awards were given in relation to each of the Helen Hamlyn Centre's three main research themes - inclusive design, workplace design and design for patient safety. There were also two special prize given personally by Helen Hamlyn. Royal College of Art professors and heads of department nominated entrants.
There were five awards, each worth £2,000 and an additional award, new this year, for Helen Hamlyn Alumni. Award categories are as follows:
