dis-like™

Team Dislike

Team leader: Martin Otto Fougner, Hugo Industridesign AS
Design partner: Anita Fjeldaas

The issue
Anita is blind and often encounters things that are 'dislikable' - crossroads that are difficult to cros, a staircase that is impractical and so on. Blind people are not the only ones who wish that things were different. We all do but how do we report it and how serious does it have to be before taking action? The team wanted to create a means where people could have a more direct influence on their immediate surroundings.

The design solution
dis-like™ is a tool for awareness and improvement of our physical environment. By using this new innovative social media platform, the team hope to connect the web with the physical realm in a constructive way.

dis-like™ is an online service where people can report their likes and dislikes concerning their surroundings by using an application that sends their observation to the dis-like™ website. The information is then used in various ways and made accessible to different parties.

The user can filter the information into categories such as: friends; design; places; objects; physical characteristics and so on. Different features can be added, for example a Top Ten feature, which ranks likes and dislikes.

The team believe that the service is relevant in two main areas:
1. The information to be used for specific purposes by - designers, architects, local government, organisations, businesses etc.
2. The entertainment aspect of observations made of places that are used in absurd or unexpected ways, such as the perfect spot for your laptop as you wait for the bus.
