Health & Patient Safety Research Lab
Pioneering products
There is a strong connection between the Centre’s Design for Patient Safety programme and the Royal College of Art/Imperial College MA course in Industrial Design Engineering. This has resulted in some highly innovative product development work at MA and Research Associate level. In each case, new designs thinking is inspired by a strong element of user-involvement, be it in developing new surgical instruments or life-saving devices. There is also a focus on healthcare process improvement, another factor that is crucial to success in introducing new products into the highly complex healthcare system.
