ello: a mobile phone device for technophobes

Programme Event

DBA Inclusive Design Challenge 2003

Mobile communication devices have transformed our lives. The mobile phone in particular is vital to the ability of disabled people to remain independent and stay in touch. However, with each new model the features multiply while the product shrinks in size in the mistaken belief that this is what all consumers want. In this winning entry to the DBA Design Challenge 2003, seymourpowell stripped the mobile phone down to its essentials. Working with a user group enabled the reformulation of the context from which mobile phones are created to produce a device that would be commercially viable, intuitive to use and capable of instilling confidence in the user.
