Handle with care: inclusive cup and holder for all needs

Sieberthead

Programme Event

DBA Inclusive Design Challenge 2002

The introduction of coffee culture and our increasingly nomadic working styles have meant that the sight of someone on the run clutching a paper cup of hot liquid is commonplace. Just as commonplace are the accidents that result. Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) accident statistics show an annual average of 350,000 burns and scalds in the UK. Eight thousand are severe and over 200 fatal, with one of the two top causes being hot drinks.

What is on the market for people on the move be they in a wheelchair, car, or on foot, is a choice between a paper cup, a non-spill baby beaker or a Thermos flask. SiebertHead went back to first principles to design a cup and holder that spells safety and freedom whatever your mode of getting around.
