Jo-Anne Bichard
Jo-Anne Bichard is a Research Fellow with responsibility for working with the academic community on inclusive design research. She is also co-ordinator of Include, the biennial international conference on inclusive design held at the Royal College of Art. Jo-Anne has a BSc(Hons) in Social Anthropology from Goldsmiths, an MSc in Science Communication from Imperial College, and is currently working on her PhD on crime and injury risk factors in public space design.
Jo-Anne’s previous research has included ethnographic studies at Goldsmiths Department of Anthropology of neuro-imaging labs involving patient volunteers and scientists as part of the Innovative Health Technologies programme, jointly funded by the ESRC and MRC.
In 2003 Jo-Anne moved into inclusive design as a research fellow on the EPSRC-funded VivaCity 2020 consortium at The Bartlett, University College London. Her principle research was focused on the Inclusive Design of ‘Away From Home’ (Public) Toilets in City Centres. She has published articles and conference papers on the design of away from home toilets and patient perceptions of brain imaging technology.
