At the Royal College of Art
The DesignAge programme is no longer active. These pages have not been updated since August 2000, and are for archive purposes only.
DesignAge was founded by the Helen Hamlyn Foundation as a stand-alone action-research programme at the Royal College of Art. Launched in 1991 with the intention of alerting industry and the design profession to the far-reaching implications of changes in the age profile of populations across Europe and the developed world, it has changed the way people think about this issue worldwide.
DesignAge is now a key element in the new Helen Hamlyn Research Centre which builds on its success and reputation. DesignAge has been recognised nationally, with a Queen's Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education, and internationally, with a Ron Mace Memorial 'Designing for the 21st Century' award.
Outputs
The output of the programme has been a stream of conferences, seminars and workshops, publications, competitions, design exemplars, an international Design for Ageing Network, and a unique collection of research material.
