Stitching Architecture Designer: Yan Ki Lee Department: Architecture & Interiors Joint second prize in the Age category A design for a film school in Shoreditch, east London which merges the building with the landscape in order to allow interaction between the students and retired people in the local community. The film school weaves through the existing environment and stitches a park, canal, road and housing estate together. It is an earth-sheltered building and includes canopy structures to provide shelters in the park. Spaces between the building and landscape become semi-open pavilions with seating. Two different research programmes support the project: indoor environment - the new interpretation of a film school programme; and outdoor study - a new use for the urban park.
