Snowdon Award for Disability Projects 2002

This award is given annually by the Provost of the Royal College of Art, Lord Snowdon, a long-time supporter of the rights of disabled people and an active designer in the disability field.

Organised by the Helen Hamlyn Research Centre, its purpose is to encourage students to take into account the needs of people less fit, mobile and able than themselves.

Winner
Owen Evans/Industrial Design Engineering
spring washbasin
A stylish, height adjustable washbasin with a patented mechanism for use by wheelchair users.

Lord Snowdon commented: "This is a totally new, freestanding concept which is easy to install and with benefits for everyone, not just disabled people. Overall, this year the standard of entries was the best I have seen."
