Design for our Future Selves Awards 2003

The Design for our Future Selves awards scheme encourages graduating RCA MA students to:

  • address social challenges and issues in their work
  • test their ideas with end users
  • think about their 'future selves'

It offers £6,000 in prize money and every shortlisted entrant receives a research bursary. The Centre also offers access to a knowledge network of experts and literature.

Students were given five socially inclusive briefs to choose from this year. Two address the socially invisible groups of older people and young disabled people; two investigate the challenges of work-life balance and urban mobility; and a fifth section for social communication projects continues to grow.

An international panel of judges looked at 55 shortlisted projects from nine RCA departments. The winners for 2003 were announced at an Award ceremony on Monday 30 June 2003. The Snowdon Award for disability projects and the Helen Hamlyn Award for creativity and innovation were also awarded at the same time.
