The website is one result of a three-year collaboration between BT, the Helen Hamlyn Centre, The Engineering Design Centre, Cambridge University and Sagentia Ltd. Over this time, BT has made a strong commitment to inclusive design and is currently working towards applying this thinking across its full range of consumer products and services.
The work was inspired and initiated by Scope, the disability organisation whose focus is cerebral palsy. The Helen Hamlyn Centre and the Engineering Design Centre at Cambridge have been working together for 10 years to develop and disseminate a public domain knowledge base on inclusive design for business, design and education.
The new website is one of many outputs of this collaboration including two resources on the Design Council website (an introduction to inclusive design and the future for inclusive design), several books on the subject, a series of regular conferences (including the Helen Hamlyn Centre's biennual Include conference and EDC's CUWAAT) and a British Standard on inclusive design management BS 7000-6.
