Audi to support Include 2007

The Audi Design Foundation were the headline sponsor of the Include 2007 conference at the Royal College of Art, on 2-4 April 2007.

The Foundation chose to support the fourth international Include conference, hosted in London by the Helen Hamlyn Centre, following its decision to make inclusive design one of the main themes of its grants programme.

The Call for Papers for Include 2007 resulted in 170 full submissions from across the world, including Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, India, Europe, the USA, Brazil and Columbia. All academic papers were carefully considered by the conference’s Scientific Committee for selection for the 65 presentation slots available.

In addition five keynote speakers – all design practitioners – were invited to address the main conference themes: Clive Grinyer of Orange, Jane Fulton-Suri of IDEO, Steve Wilcox of Design Science, David Constantine of Motivation and Paula Dib, the Brazilian winner of the 2006 International Young Design Entrepreneur of the Year Award.

Additional events were planned to enhance the main conference programme. These include a series of three Business Breakfasts that will discuss the role of inclusive design within industry. There was also the 24-hour DBA Inclusive Design Challenge, a work in progress seminar by the Helen Hamlyn Research Associates 2007 and an exhibition of winning student work from the RSA Design Directions programme in the RCA’s Hockney Gallery.

Audi Design Foundation grants manager Rebecca Myrie comments: ‘Include 2007 is a dynamic and important event. We are delighted to be associated with a conference that is seeking to push the boundaries in inclusive design and provides a springboard for high-quality applications to  our own grant programme.’
