When the British Library teamed up with Unwired and the Royal College of Art to organise WorkTech 06, a one-day conference in November 2006 looking at technology, architecture and the workplace, researchers from the Helen Hamlyn Centre were invited to exhibit.
Research associates Matthew Harrison and Anab Jain demonstrated their projects to a large professional audience of delegates. Harrison’s work is an interactive office lighting system developed with Thorn that offers older users more indidvidual control.
Jain’s scenario study with office manufacturer Colebrook Bosson Saunders is an intriguing film-based vision of a future world of work as populations age, natural resources diminish and new technologies liberate us from the fixed office.
WorkTech 06 was chaired by Helen Hamlyn Centre director Jeremy Myerson. Futurist and author Charles Handy gave the keynote address.
Worktech 07 takes place at the British Library on 13 November 2007.
